Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
Guillermo Del Toro proves yet again that he IS the most talented filmmaker in the entire world! In this film, Hellboy is on a mission to stop the bad guy from piecing together a treasure map (of sorts) that will release the Golden Army and change the balance of the universe. This may end up in my top ten films of all time. I honestly do not have much love for Hellboy or the comics, but what Del Toro does is take these characters from the first film, and throw them on an adventure filled with more amazing creatures and beings than almost any film in history. The story made me think that this is what Jim Henson might have done if he lived on and decided to make a super dark and super magical monster film for grown ups. The imaginative scenery is nothing short of spectacular. The stand out intro scene done entirely with puppets is something that needs to be seen to believe. Hellboy in the world of The Dark Crystal may not be the best comparison, however, it certainly makes me happy! I cannot wait to see it again.
