New England, 1630: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impassible wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. 'The Witch' is a chilling portrait of a family unraveling within their own fears and anxieties, leaving them prey for an inescapable evil.

Bloody Digusting - 5/5
The Witch plays on the terrors of the time period as much as it does the witchcraft, creating a scary foreign world for naive newcomers who have grown accustomed to England’s safer shores, and punishing those who rely on their faith as a way of explaining that which they do not know. Off to a triumphant start, director Eggers has eerily crafted what is easily one of the best horror movies to come out in the past ten years, and possibly one of the greatest witch stories of all time.

Austin 360:
Technically, this film is a marvel. Staying true to the time period, every scene is shot only by natural light or candlelight, to the point where you feel like you have to squint sometimes to make out some of the interior evening scenes.

I usput kratka informacija na koju sam naletio:
Written and directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Eggers, “The Witch” will go head-to-head at the box office with Timur Bekmambetov‘s big-budget remake of “Ben-Hur.”
