Director: Alec Gillis
Writer: Alec Gillis
Stars: Lance Henriksen, Camille Balsamo, Matt Winston
PLOT:
"- Starring genre staple Lance Henriksen, Harbinger Down follows a group of grad students have booked passage on the fishing trawler Harbinger to study the effects of global warming on a pod of Orcas in the Bering Sea. When the ship’s crew dredges up a recently thawed piece of old Soviet space wreckage, things get downright deadly. It seems that the Russians experimented with tardigrades, tiny resilient animals able to withstand the extremes of space radiation. The creatures survived, but not without mutation."

O FILMU:
- On May 8, 2013, Alec Gillis began a Kickstarter drive for Harbinger Down, advertising the film as being a monster horror film that was, "in the spirit of two of the greatest sci-fi/horror films of all time, ALIEN and THE THING", and that would feature only practical techniques to create the films monsters, including the use of animatronics, prosthetic makeup, stop motion and miniature effects, with the film's creatures featuring no digital animation outside of rod/rig removal and digital compositing. With a budget goal of $350,000, the film would have Lance Henriksen attached to star, composers Joel McNeely and Michael Larrabee creating the musical score, and would also feature the efforts of Oscar nominated model builders Pat McClung, Robert Skotak and Dennis Skotak.
By 7 June 2013, Amalgamated Dynamics funded Harbinger Down, making it the most successfully funded Sci-Fi/Horror Project in Kickstarter History, at $384,181.00. The film will feature exclusively practical creature effects created by ADI/StudioADI through the use of animatronics, prosthetic makeup, stop motion and miniature effects, as opposed to the use of computer generated imagery. Gillis' stated that while the money raised by the campaign would be sufficient to fund the "nuts and bolts" of the film, the film's special effects would have to be created at Gillis and Woodruff's own expense due to the film's low budget. The success of the Kickstarter campaign went on to draw the attention of producer Sultan Saeed Al Darmaki to the project, who provided additional funding for the film through his company Dark Dunes Productions
It has been a long road for practical effects extravaganza Harbinger Down, the directorial debut of ADI (aka Amalgamated Dynamics) co-founder and Stan Winston protege Alec Gillis. Along of partner-in-crime Tom Woodruff Jr., the pair set out last year to create an old school creature feature utilizing only practical make-up and animatronic special effects. After an extremely successful Kickstarter campaign, the project began production early last year and will finally see release on VOD and in select theaters on August 7th, followed by a home video release on September 1st. Today the film’s Facebook account tossed up a brand new international trailer for the project to help us pass the time

And while many of the effects are cool, per se, the lack of filmmaking experience bleeds onto the screen. Gillis and Woodruff, Jr. may know how to create the coolest of horror effects, but they have no idea how to capture them on film – nor hold back when necessary. The creature work on screen becomes gluttonous, hanging on many shots until the viewer can see just how fake and rubbery everything is. On the other end, the camerawork at times is frantic and messy, as if done in hopes of hiding the rubbery look of the filmmakers’ creations that look way too fake in HD.
The worst offense Harbinger Down makes is becoming a The Thing/Alien fan film. Instead of doing something new, it feels like a poorly executed and assembled rehash of the aforementioned classics. Was it overly ambitious? Maybe. But, at the end of the day, a film needs to be judged by what ends up on screen, not how much love went into it. With that said, Harbinger Down is more of an extremely boring Syfy movie than a new sci-fi horror classic.

Preskocite slobodno.
Ugasio nakon sat vremena. Izuzevsi pravog zimskog ugodjaja(na ove vrucine) i par solidno brutalnih/krvavih scena, sve ostalo bzvz. Vec vidjeno, rupe u prici, dosadnjikavo, predvidljivo, cudoviste nedefinirano nekako...
